Zettie Geraldine Duvall Hawkins

Mrs. Zettie Geraldine Duvall Hawkins, 93, of Marked Tree, Arkansas was born in Morrilton, Arkansas on July 5, 1929 to Wade Lawrence and Zettie Francis Maggie Verdin Duvall.  She took her heavenly flight on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Three Rivers Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Marked Tree, Arkansas. She was one of twelve siblings.  In 1944 her family moved to Manila, Arkansas, where she met and married Harold Hawkins.  They were married for forty-two years.

Mrs. Hawkins worked at two sewing factories and was a great seamstress.  She has the unique ability to look at a garment hanging in a window or on a person and go home and cut a pattern out of any paper she could find. She enjoyed making quilts and made them up until 2013.  She made enough up to give her kids and grandkids, and a few to sell.  She also enjoyed crocheting doilies and had the opportunity to make her whole family one, plus selling a few of them as well.  Momma once said; it was nothing for her to start crocheting a new doily and look up and she had spent most of the day setting and sewing, singing to herself, reminiscing on special memories of her past or something silly her kids had done.  She loved to go with Harold or one of the boys to walk the farm lands looking for marbles, ancient artifacts or old coins and would get so excited when she would fine one.  When she retired (if you want to call it that) she worked at a BBQ trailer a block from her house and loved it.  She met no stranger and loved doing this until she had her heart attack.  She was a charter member of Sneed Street Baptist Church, which has moved and renamed to Grace Baptist Church, in Marked Tree, Arkansas.  Momma loved her church.  She sang in the choir, taught a kids Sunday school class and later taught an adult Bible study class.

She is survived by her five children: Eddie Lee Hawkins (Ruby) of Manila, Arkansas, Francis Jane Hawkins (Janie) of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Manda Dean Ashcraft (Dennis) of Harrisburg, Arkansas, Freddie Harold Hawkins of Marked Tree, Arkansas and Danny Jerry Hawkins of Marked Tree, Arkansas, eleven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, five great- great grandchildren and three great-great-great grandchildren, one sister: Norma Jean Duvall Grogan, one brother: Jerry Wayne Duvall (Barbara), many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends. 

Mrs. Hawkins is preceded in death by her husband: Eddie Harold Hawkins, her parents, four brothers: Virgil Wade Duvall, Jeffrey Doyle Duvall, Forrest Calvin Duvall and Kenneth Earl Duvall, five sisters: Nina Katherine Duvall, Gladys Lucille Duvall Russell, Altine Duvall Plunkett, Erma Jean Duvall Wright, Hollis Lorene Duvall Russell, and one daughter-in-law: Rhonda Stansfield Hawkins.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. and visitation will be held Friday, March 17, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Delancey Funeral Home in Marked Tree, Arkansas.

Interment will follow funeral service in Marked Tree Cemetery, Marked Tree, Arkansas.

Brother Harold McMickle will officiate the service.

Pall-bearers: her grandsons: Shondale Hatley, Eddie Hawkins, Jr., Greg Hawkins, Freddie Wade Hawkins, Clint Eugene Hawkins, Eric Hawkins, and standing in for Eric Hawkins will be her great grandson Mark Austin Denny.

Arrangements are under the care of Delancey Funeral Home in Marked Tree, Arkansas.
