Wayne Carter

Wayne Carter, 81, of Marked Tree, Arkansas departed this life on July 25, 2024, at Arkansas Continued Care in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born on August 7, 1942, in Marked Tree to Jesse and Sybal Harp Carter. He was employed for forty years with E. Ritter Equipment and Oil Company. Wayne served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He loved music, listened to the oldies on records, collected juke boxes, collected coins and restored old cars. He helped start Adult Softball in Marked Tree, and designed the star at the grainery in Marked Tree which is lit up each Christmas. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Ronnie and James Carter, and one sister: Sue Nell Cooper.

Wayne is survived by his wife: Phyllis Love Carter of the home, one son: Shawn Carter and wife Heather of Trumann, Arkansas, one daughter: Sherry McCrary and husband Tommy of Marked Tree, Arkansas, three brothers: Bill Carter of Memphis, Tennessee, Jerry Carter of Memphis, Tennessee and Kenneth Carter of Marion, Arkansas, one sister: Helen Ponder of Southaven, Mississippi, nine grandchildren: Austin Carter, Jagger McCrary and wife Jami, Brody McCrary and wife Katie, Ali Battie and husband Brandon, Eli McCrary, Garrett Carter, Sadie Carter, Jett Carter and Brianna Carter , five great grandchildren: Tylinn Carter, Lennox McCrary, Archie McCrary, Cooper Battie, Luka McCrary, and one great grandbaby on the way.

A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday July 31, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in Marked Tree Cemetery and visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at Delancey Funeral Home in Marked Tree.

Brother Patrick Tucker will officiate the service.
