Pearl Shafer

Lela (Pearl) “Muddy” Shafer, 96, of Southaven, MS passed away peacefully, with her son, Phillip by her side, Tuesday, January 2, 2019. She was born September 19, 1922 in Bay, Arkansas to Albert Eli Oliver and Nancy “Mary”(Vickery). She married Paul Maddox Shafer on June 29, 1944. Paul and Pearl owned and managed the Strand Theater and Lepanto Drive-in for many years, they lived in Lepanto, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana and eventually settled in Memphis, TN. Pearl was a beautiful woman and a model for many years. She was longtime friend of Elvis Presley, his family, and Jerry Lee Lewis, she loved them like family and enjoyed the time spent with them. She enjoyed traveling and loved going on cruises. Pearl loved her family and friends and she cherished the time she spent with all of them. Pearl is survived by, her step-son Paul T. Shafer and his wife Ann of Clarksville, AR; daughter, Paulette Johnson of Tampa, FL; son’s David Shafer of Palm Springs, CA, Phillip Shafer and his wife Marsha of Southaven, MS; Grandchildren, Jeff Lewis and his wife Michelle of Steamboat Springs, CO, Michele Lewis-Robison and her husband Greg of Southaven, MS, Shannon Williams-Torres and her husband Jeff of Tampa, FL, Carl Williams and his wife Darla of Topeka, KS; Step-Grandchildren, Cathy Roberts and her husband Randy of London, AR, Lisa Shafer of Spring, TX, Paul T. Shafer Jr. and his wife Beth of Springdale, AR, Jeremy Hagewood and his wife Sherry of Southaven, MS; 24 great grandchildren; 24 great-great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul Maddox Shafer, brother Cecil Douglas Oliver, granddaughter Gina Paulette Williams and great-great granddaughter Tiffani Ann Pallottino.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Delancey-Murphy Funeral Home, Marked Tree, Ar. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Marked Tree Cemetery.
