Mattie Edna Kelly Fleming went to be with her Lord on August 23, 2017. Born to J.O. and Effie Kelly in Parkin, Arkansas as a 3lb preemie on October 14, 1929, she entered this world a fighter and exited the same way, laboring to the end to survive, succumbing to a heart attack after a short illness.
Mattie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard Fleming, and two sisters, Johnnye Kelly Rhoads, and Joe Ann Kelly Hatley. She is survived by one son, Trent Fleming (Edie), five grandchildren: Drew, Parker (Samantha), Camille (Joseph) Honan, Luke, and Hank, nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
A graduate of Marked Tree High School, and Draughn’s Business School, she was a career woman until she embraced the role of wife and mother, which she greatly enjoyed. School activities provided another outlet for her energies, and for many years she even served as a substitute teacher in both the Marked Tree and MissCo school systems.
Her legacy was one of concern and caring for others, whether her own family, or a neighbor, or the affairs of the church. Mattie modeled Christian charity and service through her efforts to help those around her. She was faithful, above all else. To her family, her friends, and her Lord. She will be greatly missed, but her family and friends are greatly comforted that she is at rest with the Savior she loves so dearly.
